Home Depot Remodeling – What to Expect
Welcome to 3D Remodeling! We have been installing kitchens and bathrooms for Home Depot customers for many years. Our goal is to make your remodeling experience as smooth and predictable as possible.
A successful remodel requires good communication and cooperation between the homeowner, Home Depot, 3D Remodeling, installers, suppliers, and other trades. The following information explains what you can expect and what you can do to help keep your project on schedule.
Your 3D Remodeling Customer Portal
To make communication easier, 3D Remodeling now provides customers with access to a dedicated online customer portal through www.3dremodeling.com.
Your customer portal is designed to provide one central place for important project communication and information. We encourage you to use the portal throughout your project rather than relying on conversations with individual installers or other team members.
Through the portal, you may be able to access important project information, communicate with our team, and keep track of updates related to your remodeling project.
Please make the customer portal your primary source for project communication and information.
Keeping project questions, requests, and important communications in one central location helps our entire team stay informed and reduces the possibility of misunderstandings or missed information.
If you have a question about how to access or use your portal, please contact our office.
Before Your Project Begins
Purchase Installation at the Same Time as Your Cabinets
To reserve an installation date, cabinet installation should be purchased at the same time as the cabinetry. Installation cannot be scheduled until the installation has been paid for, the Home Depot purchase order has been received by 3D Remodeling, and all required paperwork has been completed.
Cabinet orders commonly require 6–8 weeks for delivery, so planning ahead is important.
Review Your Scope of Work
Your Home Depot documents and the 3D Remodeling estimate define what is included in your project. Please review these documents carefully before work begins.
If you want to add or remove work after the project has been purchased, the change must be documented in writing and approved before the work begins. Changes can affect both cost and scheduling.
Scheduling
Your 3D Remodeling office will provide a tentative schedule showing the expected sequence and duration of our work.
A complete kitchen remodel commonly takes 6–8 weeks or longer, depending on the scope of work, countertops, inspections, material availability, and other trades.
The schedule is an estimate, not a guarantee. Remodeling involves many items outside of our control, including:
Cabinet or material delays, Damaged or missing products, Countertop fabrication and installation, City inspections, Flooring installation, Work performed by other contractors, Customer-requested changesThere may be days or periods when no installer is at your home while we wait for materials, inspections, or another trade to complete its work.
For scheduling questions, please use your customer portal or contact the 3D Remodeling office rather than relying on the Home Depot store or installer for scheduling information.

Cabinet & Material Delivery
The homeowner is responsible for coordinating cabinet and appliance deliveries with the manufacturers and keeping 3D Remodeling informed of delivery dates.
Before installation begins:
All products needed for the installation must be on site.Cabinets should be stored close to the work area.Provide approximately 10' x 12' of storage space.Delivery companies may provide curbside delivery unless additional delivery service has been purchased. Please notify our office as soon as you receive your delivery date.If cabinets or other required materials are missing or damaged, installation may need to be delayed until the necessary items are available.
Pre-Construction Meeting
Before work begins, we will conduct a pre-construction meeting to review:
Scope of workFinal plans and specificationsMaterials and finishesCabinetryScheduleJobsite accessStorage areasSafety proceduresInstallation requirementsThis is an important opportunity to inspect your cabinets and other materials for the correct color, finish, style, hardware, trim, and visible shipping damage.
Required approvals and signatures must be completed before installation proceeds.
Preparing Your Home
Please prepare the work area before our crew arrives.
Clear the Work Area
Remove personal belongings, furniture, pictures, and other items from the work area. We recommend keeping valuable or fragile items well away from the construction area.
Provide a clear pathway to the work area and adequate space for materials and installers.
Access
If you will not be home during construction, please provide a lockbox and key so our installers can access the home during scheduled working hours.
Our installers may need flexible access during the day to keep the project moving.
Pets
For everyone's safety, pets should be kept away from the construction area. Installers may need to leave doors open while moving materials in and out of the home.
Dust
Remodeling creates dust. 3D Remodeling will protect the immediate work area with floor protection, but dust can travel into nearby areas.
We recommend removing small items from shelves and protecting furniture and belongings near the construction area. Cleaning of areas outside the immediate work area is the homeowner's responsibility.
Restroom
The homeowner is responsible for providing restroom access for the installation crew. If you do not want installers using your household restroom, you will need to provide an alternative.
Appliances
Please provide appliance specifications and installation instructions before the project begins.
Appliances should be delivered on the same level and near the work area. 3D Remodeling is not equipped to move heavy appliances up stairs.
If you are supplying appliances from a source other than Home Depot, you are responsible for coordinating their installation unless appliance installation is specifically included in your 3D Remodeling scope of work.
Used appliances are installed at the homeowner's risk and are not guaranteed by 3D Remodeling.
Countertops
Countertops are typically fabricated and installed by a separate countertop contractor.
Countertop measurements are taken after the cabinets are installed, so countertop scheduling is an important part of the overall project.
Before countertop installation, make sure the following items are available when required:
SinkFaucetSoap dispenserAir gapWater filtration componentsAir switch or other accessoriesPlease notify 3D Remodeling as soon as you receive your countertop installation date so we can coordinate our work.
Flooring
For most kitchen remodels, flooring is installed after the cabinets.
If existing flooring is being retained, we will make reasonable efforts to protect it; however, we cannot guarantee that the new cabinet layout will match the existing flooring footprint.
Flooring, baseboard, and related finish work should be reviewed as part of your project scope.
Permits & Inspections
Projects involving more than cabinet installation may require permits. When included in your scope, 3D Remodeling will handle the basic permit process.
Some projects may require additional planning, zoning, engineering, HOA approval, or other services that are outside a basic permit and may involve additional costs.
Permit requirements and fees vary by city. The homeowner is responsible for HOA approvals and any approvals required before construction begins.
Testing for Older Homes
Homes built before approximately 1980 may require testing for lead, asbestos, mold, or other hazardous materials in the work area.
If testing or abatement is required, work may need to stop until the affected materials are properly addressed and the work area is cleared for construction.
Change Orders
Remodeling projects sometimes require changes after work begins.
Any addition, deletion, or change to the original scope must be documented in a written change order and approved before the additional work is performed.
Change orders can affect both the cost and completion date of your project. Even seemingly minor changes can affect cabinets, countertops, plumbing, electrical, inspections, or other scheduled work.
Communication
Good communication is one of the most important parts of a successful remodeling project.
Your 3D Remodeling Customer Portal should be the primary place for project communication. Using one central communication system helps make sure questions, requests, updates, and important information are available to the appropriate members of our team.
Please use the portal whenever possible for:
Project questionsSchedule-related questionsRequests or concernsProject updatesImportant information you want our team to havePlease make sure that any requested changes or special instructions are documented in writing. Conversations with a designer, installer, or another team member do not automatically change the approved scope of work.
Who Should I Contact?
Customer Portal: Primary method for project communication and updates
3D Remodeling Office: Scheduling and project questions925-449-5477
On-Site Installer: Day-to-day jobsite questions
Home Depot: Questions regarding your Home Depot purchase, products, or store-related matters
Using the appropriate communication channel helps us respond faster and keeps everyone working from the same information.
Additional Work
Remodeling can uncover existing conditions that could not reasonably be identified before demolition. These may include:
Water or termite damage, Rot, Outdated plumbing or electrical, Code violations, Uneven floors or walls, Damaged subfloors, Drain or plumbing upgrades, Electrical panel upgrades, Missing insulation, Lead, asbestos, or mold remediationThese items are not automatically included in a basic remodeling estimate and may require additional work and cost.
Safety A remodeling project is an active construction site.
For everyone's safety:
Stay out of active work areas whenever possible.Do not assist installers with construction work.Do not allow children to enter the work area.Keep pets away from the construction area.Keep pathways clear of personal belongings.3D Remodeling employees and subcontractors are not permitted to perform unauthorized side work for Home Depot customers.
Final Walkthrough
When your project is substantially complete, 3D Remodeling will conduct a final walkthrough.
If you have items that need attention, please provide them in writing through the customer portal so we can review and address them as efficiently as possible.
Required city inspections and approvals will also be completed as applicable.
Your Home Will Be a Construction Site
A remodel can be disruptive. There will be noise, dust, workers coming and going, and periods when progress may seem slow while we wait for materials or other trades.
The best way to minimize frustration is to understand the schedule, keep communication open, and remember that remodeling is a process with many moving parts.
Our goal is to complete your project correctly, safely, and with as little disruption as possible.
