"How Long Does a Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel Take?"

A typical kitchen remodel takes 6-8 weeks. Several factors influence the schedule. One is the age of the home. Older homes often reveal interesting things during renovations. We provide a detailed schedule for each phase of work, tailored to your project scope. However, unforeseen events can disrupt the timeline.
We conduct a pre-construction meeting before construction begins. This meeting involves delivering and inspecting all materials. Another factor that can delay progress is city inspections and obtaining permits, which can be time-consuming.
Change orders from customers can also increase the overall time to complete the project. Structural changes, such as removing walls or altering the floor plan, take longer to organize and execute.
A realistic timeline for a kitchen remodel includes the following phases:
1. Design and Ordering Phase: Before starting the project, we provide customers with a Gantt chart. This chart outlines the rough schedule and helps customers understand the project timeline. While the timeline is flexible, it shows the order of tasks and their deadlines.
2. Production Phase: After the design and ordering phase, we move into production. We schedule a pre-construction meeting to inspect all cabinetry and other materials. If everything is approved, we begin production, which includes prep work, demolition, framing, electrical/mechanical/plumbing rough-ins, and rough inspections. This phase is considered the first phase of any project. This phase can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the scope of the project and the extent of the construction work required. If the scope includes removing or adding walls, engineered beams, footings, or other structural elements, add several days to the timeline.
After completing all trades of rough inspections, which can take up to several days (as inspectors may be booked out depending on the city), we can proceed with finishing the interior. This involves installing drywall, conducting additional inspections, and starting with the “visual” elements of the renovation. This is usually the first significant change you’ll notice since the demolition phase. Cabinets are installed, and hardware is installed. This part of the process typically takes between 1 and 2 weeks to complete.
Once the cabinets are installed, we can set up any necessary templates, such as countertops, glass inserts, and start on any flooring within the scope of the project. We also prepare everything for the installation of appliances and countertops.
After the countertops are installed, we have a few more tasks to complete. Appliances are installed, and we can proceed with the final electrical and plumbing work. These final tasks usually take about a week to complete, depending on the efficiency of our work and the availability of resources.
Finally, we can start compiling a punch list. For example, if a cabinet door was damaged or dinged during installation, we’ll order it and install it as soon as it arrives.
Once the punch list is complete, which typically takes a couple of days, we schedule final inspections. Once the inspections are completed, the renovation is complete! Some customers prefer to move in as soon as possible, so they provide a deep clean and start moving some of the kitchen items into the cabinetry.
